UNICAL KIDNAP: ASUU DECLARES A 7 DAY PROTEST

The Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU), University of Calabar Chapter has declared a 7 day solidarity protest with effect from Wednesday, May 4 over kidnapping activities on the campus.

The protest is to call on the University management, the state and federal governments to fish out kidnappers of the wife and daughter of an academic staff in the medical college Dr. Ndifon and the son of Barr Aniema of the graduate school.
The kidnapped persons were said to be taken away from the UNICAL Staff quarters where they reside on May 2 and taken away through a ready speed boat in the riverine area of the university.

According to the General Secretary of ASUU UNICAL branch, the institution has over the years had series of security challenges which has obviously proven to be beyond the surveillance team of the university.
He disclosed that, the university in solidarity to this ill fated situation on their colleagues decided to shut down academic activities in the institution to draw global attention to their plight in anticipation of a positive response.
